Music is known to pierce your soul. Since the beginning of time, music has influenced our emotions. From ancient hymns to modern worship songs, music within the Christian tradition has a unique ability to connect believers with God while simultaneously addressing their emotional needs. Worship music offers a profound impact on emotional well-being by fostering feelings of peace, joy, and spiritual connection. I know I have enjoyed the peace that overcomes me when listening to this genre of music.

So, let’s explore the influence worship music has on our emotional well-being.

How Can Worship Music Reduce Stress?

Finding ways to reduce stress is always on the checklist. I know it’s on mine. When I started listening to worship music, I wondered if I would like it. Would I vibe with it? Sure enough, I really liked a lot of the songs I heard. During some hard times, as I was trying to find my way back to Christ, the music certainly pierced through my soul.

So, how can worship music reduce stress? The calming rhythms and uplifting lyrics can help us refocus our thoughts on God rather than our worries. Casting your worries onto God is very stress-reducing. Not to mention, music is known to activate the brain’s reward system, which can help one to relax. It allows you to tap into your spiritual connection with God as well. Find your faith through music.

How Worship Music Helps Mental Health

Worship music is full of uplifting, hopeful, and redemption, and more positive influences through the songs. When you’re facing depression or anxiety, turning up the worship music can be very enlightening and lifting. Listening or singing along to the music can allow you to process your emotions through the music. Like journaling or drawing, music is another form of self-expression, which is very beneficial in supporting your mental health. When times get tough, turn on the worship music.

However, the Bible speaks of two or more gathered to create a church, a community, the building of a community is extremely helpful in healing your mental health. Surround yourself with others in your community and build a support system and a place to share the love of music. This leads me to the next topic…

Building a Sense of Community Through Adoration

It is vital to have a community surrounding you during hard times. Oftentimes, we may want to just be alone, but this can have negative side effects. Sure, sometimes alone time is necessary to process and prepare, other times, it can be too isolating, making overcoming the struggle even harder. You can join church groups to expand your circle. Not only does it expand your circle but can help you dive deeper into your faith.

Another way to expand your support circle can include your local Facebook groups, speaking with your church’s staff for potential groups, and talking with family and friends; these are a couple of ways you can diversify your community through adoration for God. A community focused on God that radiates unity can help one navigate those hard times.

Personal Devotions to Lift Your Emotional Well-being

What does it mean to do a devotional? Let me tell you. It’s a reading that provides a daily reflection based on scripture designed to encourage spiritual growth. You may wonder, what does a devotional have to do with getting yourself emotionally better? Well, as mentioned, devotionals share reflections that are meant to help you advance your spiritual growth. This means scripture can share insights to open your mind to different perspectives in ways God has in mind for us.

He will help guide us to what we are supposed to be doing if we let Him. It can be hard to give up control and to release our anxieties unto the Lord, yet it can be the most satisfying when we finally do. You can find worship songs that act as a devotional, too. Get involved in your devotions. See where you will be guided.

In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.

Isaiah 41:10

In this verse, you can rest assured that life will be hard. There will be challenges, yet God has already won our battles. Crack open your Bible to find the peace that is intended for you and that is there to help guide you through those struggles. Undoubtedly, yes, life is difficult. There’s that saying that anything difficult will be worth it, and the easy things are not. That’s because putting in the hard work will bring you the most gratification and accomplishment. Following Jesus is a lot like that. It won’t be easy…but with a little faith, trust, and effort your life can go a long way. The righteous road is a narrow one.

What Worship Songs Would You Suggest?

Okay, so I’m suggesting honing into the worship music, so it may help to give you a list of some of my favorites to get you started. Christian music has evolved so much, but finding the lyrics that continue to reflect God’s word is where it is at. Check out this list of songs to find what opens your heart to God:

Final Thoughts

Okay, I could keep going! But I would say this should be a good head start for those looking to explore more Christian/worship music and not sure where to start. These songs really hit home for me in many ways and helped me expand my view of what God has in store for me, and us. They helped me challenge and reflect on my thoughts and behavior to learn where I needed to grow. I have struggled with my mental health challenges since I was a child, so for me, mental health and Christianity are very relatable. I think more people are struggling with their mental health than ever before, and it’s hard to find the right path that works for you.

This is the path I chose to follow. Hopefully, you can see the promise of a better and happier life through Christ, too.
